Major figures in H.G. Wells Scholarship

Simon J. James

Simon J. James is an English academic and specialist in late Victorian and Edwardian fiction, especially George Gissingand H. G. Wells. A Professor of English Literature at Durham University, he is currently the Head of the Department of English Studies (2015-2018). He is the Editor of The Wellsian, the journal of the H. G. Wells Society. As well as publishing a book on George Gissing and writing many academic articles, he has also edited four H. G. Wells novels for Penguin Classics .

Patrick Parrinder

Patrick Parrinder (born 1944) is an academic, currently Professor of English at the School of English and American Literature at the University of Reading, having been educated at Leighton Park School before going on to King's College, Cambridge. He has written books of literary criticism on James Joyce and H.G. Wells. He is associate editor of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, focusing on literary authors in the period 1890-1920. He is an editor of H.G. Wells texts.

John R. Hammond

John Hammond is a Research Fellow at Nottingham Trent University and Founding President of the H G Wells Society. He has written and lectured extensively on literary topics and is the past President of the H G Wells Society. He is the author of H G Wells and the Modern Novel and H G Wells and the Short Story and has also written critical studies of Defoe, Stevenson, Poe and Orwell.
